In my last post, I wrote about the big secret behind calorie shifting, and some of you actually dropped me a mail asking what's the difference between Atkins Diet and Calorie Shifting. I'm not a fan of diets, but I'll take some time off to do a comparison for both the Atkins Diet and Calorie shifting to see which is better.
Atkins Diet:
The concept is all about low carbohydrate and a high protein diet. The Atkins diet is designed to force your body to use fats for energy instead of carbohydrates. You see, when our body is starved of cabohydrates (out body's priority choice of energy), they look for other forms of energy. The body then turns to fats for it's energy supply. The reason for taking higher protein is to make sure your muscles are not broken down by the body for energy.
Pros:
This diet is effective for a short term weight-loss routine combined together with exercise. You will see results, that's for sure.
Cons:
This diet isn't necessarily healthy over a long run. Research has shown that the lack of carbohydrate in our body can cause frequent mood swings and even cause you to feel lethargic. You will lose motivation if you're not determined to lose weight. There are researchers who have also fount out that atkin's diet can lead to permanent heart and kidney damange. However, there are other researches that also challenge the claim.
Calorie Shifting:
Calorie shifting isn't about low carb, it isn't about low fat, and certainly isn't about high protein.
Calorie shifting is all about eating well balanced meals more frequently in a day. When we eat more frequent but less portioned meals, our body will maintain a higher overall metabolism rate. This increases our energy output thus burning more calories and in the process, lose weight.
Pros:
Calorie shifting diet helps you lose weight on a well balanced diet while eating the food that you like. You are simply manipulating the way your metabolism works.
Cons:
Here's the best part to Calorie shifting, there are no health risks nor any psychological changes to a person on this diet. However, you'll need to be disciplined to follow the diet strictly. The onset of weight loss may take a slightly longer time.
I couldn't find any researches done on calorie shifting at this point of time but there are studies that show that frequent meals increases our metabolism.
Conclusion; Calorie Shifting or Atkins Diet
I have no doubts that both diets do work when put together with frequent exercise. However, for the average joe like you and I, I would recommend you to take on the Calorie shifting diet instead. It is safer and has much less side effects. That's all for this entry, I welcome any questions/comment through email.
