Obesity is one of the most common nutritional problems in the United States. Very soon, every 1 out of 3 children born after the year 2000, will have obesity related problems like Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, heart dieseases and so on.
Child obesity happens when a child takes in more calories than the body can use. Obesity can have many causes, ranging from diet and lifestyle to genetic disorders. We can't help genetic disorders but we certainly can make a lifestyle and diet change for our kids. I don't want my kids to suffer and neither do you. Obesity is next to smoking in the leading causes to death in America.
1. Never reduce food intake - Reducing your kids food intake may hinder his/her growth. Therefore we as parents should promote a balanced meal of whole grains, vegetables, fresh meat and WATER.
2. Let them have an active lifestyle - Bring them out to play, get them the a basketball or a soccer ball, buy them less games that'll will restrict them from going out doors. Play catch with them.
3. Less/No sweets - Children also should not receive sweets until after 12 months. With a child of any age, it is extremely important not to use food as a reward or to control behavior. These children learn to use food as a stress reliever. Balance and moderation are important.
Remember, moderation is the key. It is alright to bring your children down to the fast food chain once fornightly or a month. But remember, his or her future lies in our hands. We must let them have a chance to live life to the fullest. An active lifestyle. That's the key!
